What to Get the Little Ones for Supper!

Picture this:

I'm sitting in a patissiere in Arusha, Tanzania tapping out a quick update. Our first big adventure was on day seven and going fabulously well. So well, we were actually wondering whether we had peaked way too early in the animal viewing stakes as we had seen "one with the lot" already. Not only had we witnessed the Big 5 in all their glory; buffalo, lion, leopard, rhino and elephant, we had also marvelled at the "piece de resistance." As we stared gobsmacked, three lionesses with 11 cubs in tow, killed not one but two wildebeasts for supper right in front of us. (Well, down a little way but close enough that we could be called as witnesses if need be!) Absolutely incredible. Such was the event that you half expected the dulcet tones of David Attenborough to come floating out of nowhere, describing what you had seen but yet to fully comprehend.

What better way to have the continued conversation with daughter about the "circle of life?"

 

Something else worth seeing, entrepreneurial mothers at their best. You cannot go past the women folk in these African countries. They make things out of absolutely nothing, quite amazing really. Prime examples are some of the stuff we brought home: bottle top bags, plastic bag mats and Coca Cola can Christmas trees, very impressive.

 

Our next port of call was Zanzibar. I couldn't wait for that one as from memory (I had been 10 years previously) it was a fabulous little place. More on that next week.
