Meal Monday
A mom with two young children has just published a dessert cookbook called Organic and Chic: Cakes, Cookies, and Other Sweets that Taste as Good as They Look.The author, Brooklyn-based baker Sarah Magid, specializes in creating custom cakes and sweets from organic ingredients.
With a background in fashion design, Magid is all about high-style looks. But, she has a sense of fun and whimsy.
Check out her blog, Thoughts and Ideas, Sarah Magid Cakes. She has a really funny posting about making “poo cookies” for her son to bring in to school for April Fools day.
The cookies really do look like poo, but, this being Sarah Magid, they are all organic poo cookies.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. Magid also has a posting about easy homemade (and organic) playdough.
Then there is the not-so-easy recipe for homemade mallomars, which involves making your own graham crackers, marshmallow filling, and chocolate glaze. Whew! A lot of work. But, hey, they are all organic!
I really love the posting from her article in Cookie magazine about (what else?) making fun cookie crafts with kids. The cookie creations are organic, colorful, and creative. She has five ideas for using the boldly colored dough:
(1) cookie beads for stringing into necklaces;
(2) cookie puzzle;
(3) cookie pop faces;
(4) friendship cookies (heart cookies cut in two); and
(5) cookie pretzels.
Magid seems to have some fun ideas on her blog. I can’t wait to see her book.
